TIME, TIDE & WEATHER INSTRUMENTS

I mount these instruments in a hand-selected piece of Birdseye Maple*, add a distinctive Rosewood frame and apply several light coats of Pure Jojoba. The clocks run on one "N" battery which is included. Each mechanism has a 3¾" diameter plexiglass front, gold-tone bezel and ivory face.

Two Instruments in One Frame
Choose from a traditional clock, a tide clock and a barometer. Each frame comes with two hangers and the instruments can be rotated in the frame so you can hang this beautiful piece either vertically or horizontally. The combination Tide Clock and Barometer is extremely useful for salt water boaters and fishermen. See the descriptions below for details about each instrument. The two-instrument frame measures approx. 6½" by 11½".

Stand Alone Tide Clock
Tide ClockWith this Tide Clock, you'll have a simple and dependable way to know the tide conditions in your area. It's very useful for fishermen, boaters, surfers and beachcombers. This Tide Clock is very easy to understand at a glance. The single hand always shows how many hours until your next high or low tide. When the hand is straight up, it's high tide. When the hand is straight down, it's low tide. The clock works by keeping track of “moon time” which runs on a cycle of 24 hours and 50½ minutes. (Please note that because its tides do not follow moon time, tide clocks will not work accurately in the Gulf of Mexico). The Tide Clock runs on one "N" battery which is included. The frame measures approx. 6½" square by 1" deep.

barometerStand Alone Barometer
This barometer is an extremely useful instrument for measuring atmospheric pressure. Although most barometers rely on a liquid, traditionally mercury, to measure changes, this is an aneroid barometer meaning it uses an air-filled expansion chamber, spring and hand to display changes in atmospheric pressure. In addition to the black pressure indicator hand there is a movable brass pointer. By setting this pointer over the indicator hand, it serves as a reference allowing you to determine the direction and distance the pressure indicator hand has moved since your last reading. This is very useful in forecasting short term weather changes. The barometer requires no batteries and need only be calibrated once. To calibrate to your local conditions, check the National Weather Service website. Detailed instructions are included. The frame measures 6½" square by 1" deep.

* Contrary to popular belief, Birdseye Maple isn't a variety or species of maple at all. It's a phenomenon that occurs in several kinds of timber. Its cause is unknown. Some believe it is a reaction to a fungal infection, genetic mutation, bird pecking, growth history, or some other mysterious element. Birdseye maple is among the rarest of woods. It is valued for its distinctive pattern that looks like tiny, swirling eyes disrupting the wavy lines of grain.
