BOOT JACK

boot jack It used to be everyone kept a boot jack by the door. Having folks remove their muddy shoes and boots at the door saved a lot of wear and tear on the floors not to mention sweeping and mopping time. A boot jack is a very simple but effective tool for removing shoes and boots without bending over and getting mud on your hands.

Both functional and decorative, this boot jack removes all sizes of shoes and boots with ease. Simply place one foot on the base and wedge your other heel between the prongs and step out. I tested a number of jacks before I came up with this particular design. It combines elements of Shaker jacks, English riding stable jacks and an antique jack found in a barn here in Maine.

bootjackI make these boot jacks from 100% Maple. I assemble them with pegs so there are no screws or nails that will rust. A large hole in the heel of the jack allows water to drain off of it. But this jack is such a looker you may just want to hang it on the wall near the door. After a thorough hand-sanding I give them several coats of satin finish so they'll stand up to rough use and stay beautiful.
