NATURAL BIRCH CANDLE STANDS
Bring a piece of the north woods into your home with these candle stands made from seasoned birch logs. Sized to safely hold standard tealights, these stands make an elegant accent in contemporary, traditional and rustic settings. Use them to add an earthy natural element to an old farmer's table or as a centerpiece on a formal dinner table. I've sold a bunch of these to folks who use them as centerpieces at wedding receptions and corporate banquets and raffle them off to guests when they're done with them. Available individually or in sets of three. (Pine cones & boughs not included.)
Each candle stand is truly unique and incorporates all the natural character you expect of Birch: imperfections, knots and all. As you can see in the photo a few even sport the Birch Poloypore fungus or 'shelf mushrooms'.* I cut these birch logs by hand. In order to keep them looking their best I carry them, I do not drag them, from my woodlot. That way I minimize the dirt, scarring and bruising.
I've been asked why I make these with tealight candle inserts instead of wrapping a solid candle in birch bark. There are two reasons. First, it's a matter of safety. When I build a campfire, my first choice for kindling is birch bark because it burns so readily. I'm afraid a solid candle wrapped in birch bark would pose a fire hazard. Second, by using tealight inserts these candle stands will last forever. You just replace the inexpensive tealight and they're good as new.
These candle stands measure approximately 3½" in diameter and come in 3½", 5½" and 8" heights (give or take ½"). The bottoms are covered with felt and each candle holder comes with three unscented tea lights. The tea lights are a standard ½" tall, 1½" in diameter and will burn for about 2 hours.
